The Soundtrack of Their Love: Exploring the Romantic Ballads by Michael Bublé Inspired by His Wife

Michael Bublé is renowned worldwide as one of the most successful contemporary jazz and pop singers. With his smooth baritone voice and charming stage presence, he has sold over 75 million records globally. However, behind every great artist is the love and support of their partner, and for Bublé, his wife Luisana Lopilato has been his biggest cheerleader and source of inspiration. Two of Bublé’s most popular and beloved songs – “Haven’t Met You Yet” and “I’ll Never Not Love You” – were written with his deep love for Lopilato in mind.

Bublé and Lopilato first met in 2008 when she appeared in the music video for his hit song “Haven’t Met You Yet”. Lopilato, who is an Argentine actress and model, instantly captivated Bublé. Though they came from different worlds and cultures, they connected through their mutual passion for family, music and entertainment. After dating for over two years, Bublé proposed to Lopilato in November 2009 in Barcelona, Spain. They married the following year in a romantic ceremony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Soon after meeting Lopilato, Bublé was inspired to write “Haven’t Met You Yet”. The song captures that exciting, hopeful feeling of new love and the anticipation of finding one’s soulmate. While the lyrics talk about a universal experience, Bublé has openly said the song was very much about his dream of finding a relationship and falling in love with Lopilato. He has called meeting her “the best thing that ever happened” to him.

The music video for “Haven’t Met You Yet”, directed by Noble Jones, was a sweet tribute to their blossoming romance. It featured Bublé and Lopilato recreating iconic scenes from the classic 1980s teen comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. From dancing at a parade to riding on top of a float, their charming on-screen chemistry was evident. Fans loved seeing the real-life couple portray falling in love. The video provided a glimpse into Bublé finding his match in Lopilato, just as the lyrics described.

Over a decade after meeting, Bublé’s love and appreciation for his wife only continued to grow stronger. In 2022, inspired by their enduring relationship, he released the heartfelt ballad “I’ll Never Not Love You”. The song is a beautiful sequel and commitment to the promise outlined in “Haven’t Met You Yet”. Where that earlier song captured the excitement of new love, “I’ll Never Not Love You” expresses the depth and resilience of a marriage that has lasted through life’s ups and downs.

The music video for “I’ll Never Not Love You” was directed by Bublé himself. It featured intimate, black and white footage of him and Lopilato recreating iconic scenes from classic romantic movies like The Notebook and Casablanca. Interspersed with home videos of their young family, the video portrayed their real-life love story. In an interview about the song, Bublé said “After over a decade, my love for my wife and my children has only deepened. This song is about that enduring, eternal kind of love that keeps growing stronger every day.”

Beyond inspiring two of his most popular songs, Lopilato has been Bublé’s biggest cheerleader throughout his career. She regularly supports him at his concerts and events. In a 2021 interview, Bublé gushed about how Lopilato “has been there through every step of my journey, through the ups and downs. She believes in me when I don’t believe in myself. Her love and support are what keep me going.” He also credits her with helping him stay grounded as a family man, despite his worldwide fame.

Bublé and Lopilato now have three young children – sons Noah (born 2013) and Elias (born 2017), and daughter Vida (born 2018). In recent years, Bublé has spoken about scaling back touring to spend more time with his growing family. However, he continues to find inspiration in his deep love for his wife and children. While his music has brought joy to millions, Lopilato is the one who brings him the most joy of all. She has not only been his muse for two beloved songs, but the driving force behind his success and happiness. Through the highs and lows, Bublé knows he’ll never not love his soulmate Luisana.
